The East Valley is anchored by the beautiful downtown Burbank, a saying Johnny Carson made popular when he moved "The Tonight Show" from New York to NBC's Burbank facilities. Free tickets to watch taping of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" are available at the studio, as are guided tours. In addition to NBC, the Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Studios are located here, making this a huge entertainment Mecca.
Warner Bros. offers a VIP studio tour that provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse at studio life, as well as a fascinating museum. The architecture of the Walt Disney Studios is not to be missed. One of the buildings even features the Seven Dwarfs carved into its facade, as they appear to be holding up the roof. The Disney Feature Animation building, which is visible from the Ventura Freeway, has won awards for its splashy retro look, complete with Mickey Mouse's hat from "Fantasia."
Many people have heard of the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, but the Polo Club, which uses the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank as its base, is the real thing. Competitions are held here along with Polo Chuckers, which is similar to a quarter in football. Burbank is also the home of the Media City Center Shopping Center, which features stores such as IKEA, Sports Chalet, Macy's Mervyn's and Sears.
